12:10 am - The main problem with teenagers is that they're just like their parents were at their age
|
I want and need to remember the lessons Ive learned the past 3 weeks.
When I was a teenager one of the ways I got through all the shittyness, crap, emo, fucked up whatever I thought I had was knowing that eventually Id grow up, and grow out of it and be an adult and know how to handle all those emotions better. In fact I remember people telling me it was a teenager thing only really - and some people even said it was because my brain hadn't fully matured yet so I coldn't deal with those emotions.
The problem is - those emotions dont change - they just get more complicated.
No one prepares you to deal with those. I need to grow up. I need to find a way to deal with emotions in a healthy way.
More importantly - I need to instill in my kids the ability to handle these things waaay better then a did then and far better then I have lately.

Okay - I have a few bakers on my FL and Im lazy...so..whoever posted those blueberry applesauce muffins OMG - best muffins ever..seriously..ever. They are ridiculously yummy.
And on a second baking note...anyone know how to get muffins to *not* stick to the paper cup thingys. Id prefer not to use that spray stuff..it does leave a taste, I dont care what people say. Do those silicone cups work well?

12:20 pm - Computer time....
|
kahlan loves the computer...unfortunately our old broken one no longer suffices...We have downloaded toddler keys - but she is a little bored with the same pictures (even though there are 30 of them...) Anyways...any of you know some other young toddler friendly programs/sites/online games that I could get and use for her.
I like to let her explore and do the things she is interested it....but Im running out of resources for young toddlers on computers....

“There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout: This is me damn it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complex package. Take me... or leave me. Accept me - or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision. When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad - you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you.” Stacey Charter

6:27 pm - Am I crazy?
|
To my lj friends...there is a post on P101 about a mama going out on new years and leaving her baby overnight...and after reading the comments I honestly wondered if I was crazy.
There are some mamas on there who have left there 7month old for a week, or babies as young as two weeks, or 8 weeks - some parents seem to do it several times a month. Most claiming its okay need a break (which is totally true - I just dont think breaks need to be overnight...yk?)
Anyways...at what age did you let your kids spend the night away from you? What factored into your decision to wait that long, or do it so soon? If you havent yet had a night away, why?
FWIW, Kahlan is 16months and still hasnt spent the night away....

2:23 pm - Potty Learning?
|
I think I need a potty for Kahlan.....she didnt want to wear a diaper today - and I dont force the issue, generally after anywhere between 5 and 40 minutes she goes and gets one and wants to wear it - but not today. So Ive been taking her to sit on our toilet and she has peed in it twice (5 times on the floor), and pooed once! yay,,,she has no interest in it, just no interest in wearing diapers, but she may have an interest if she had one thats her size - she likes things that are her size.
I have a goal to avoid plastic contraptions, but I dont know that I can do that with the potty...so any recommendations? I like simple, and easy to clean....

6:35 pm - motrin
|
I will no longer buy motrin products - or tylenol - as they are all owned by the johnson & johnson parent company. They have a new ad campaign that pisses me off.
A little while ago they had one that implied using their product to drug your baby so that they would sleep. And made it seem that everyone does it so its okay - so that bugged me, but I tried to look the other way as there are TONS of parents who do it (*sigh*) so it wasnt factually incorrect.
Now however they have one regarding babywearing that is just so wrong, and so incorrect. And depicts moms as tired and crazy...
No more motrin products for me :)
Oh check out the ad: http://www.motrin.com/

11:23 am - A Baby Story
|
I gotta stop watching these shows - everytime I do they drive me nuts! Nuts! But they are doing a multiples thing it seems...and I have to wonder/ask how come multiples seem to always be delivered by c-section (they never say if its elective)..and today they did one where the woman was having triplets and they did an elective at 34 weeks...why! please someone tell me why! Why cant a multiples pregnancy go along and progress like a singleton one? I mean, if the labour starts early I can see the need to go to the hospital or if there are complications...but seriously...why cant they? multiples were born before we had hospitals were they not?

1:19 pm - sad and confused
|
Im not sure what to do.
I watch this little boy - who I love. He is great, normally, and me and his mom get a long fantastically. When I agreed to watch him she said it would be 3 days a week part time and maybe one day full time. It is now 4 days a week and one day full time. Which isnt too bad.
The sad thing is, this little boy, who is only just turning two in like 2 weeks, is clearly going through really bad separation anxiety. He cries all the time, sometimes so hard he vomits. Nothing can distract him, and some days he hardly eats anything. I have tried the park, toys, games, singing, dancing, music, food, and even the dreaded tv..trying to help him. I know he likes me, and I dont ignore him at all - I just dont know what to do. He was fine at first, but now the novelty of hanging out with Kahlan and me has worn off.
I want to tell his mom that he isnt ready to be away from her for so often. But also know that she has to go to work. So I would rather he be with me than with someone who wont be so caring with him. I cuddle him to sleep, and am really attentive. I think its important he get that, and I dont want to put him in a place where he will be even worse.
So Im not sure what to do. His unhappiness is draining on me, and not fair to Kahlan - and definately not fair to him.
Note: its not that I cant handle children crying. It really doesnt bother me in that angry way. I am just so sad for this little man.

9:01 pm - Halloween
|
Am I the only one who doesnt really care? I mean, when Kahlan is older and we are living in a house I will probably do it, and take her (and pie pants...yes thats what we are calling baby to be..actually craig is calling it blister (craig is over my shoulder saying he doesnt mean the name in a gross puss oozing sort of way...but more the way a father makes weird names up for his child sort of way..fine he says its the combination of brother and sister since we arent finding out the gender)..but I digress). Kahlan just wouldnt get it - and Im not investing the time to make a costume and then take her out door to door...But it seems a bunch of people are taking their LO's..like really little one's out - even though they have no older kids as well.
Not that I am judging anyone who does...but why? Why do you take your little tiny child, who doesnt even know what halloween really is out? seriously...what am I missing..?

11:46 am - And the rage takes over...
|
I've been working on this sweater forever now...with occassional help (okay..I lie..quite a bit of help) from latemove. I finished the body, finished the sleeve - I now HATE magic loop with every fibre of my being - and I go to transfer the sleeve to the body using the stitches I have on the stitch holder. I do all that, think Im doing an Awesome job - and am quite proud of myself for doing this step w/o needing help...
but...
I go to admire my handy work..and I have attached it upside down...ARG! so Im trying to undo all the stitches I just did - when I realize that in order to detatch the sleeve, and re-attatch the other side I need to transfer those stitches back onto the stitch holder..yeah needless to say that didnt go well - and everything is a BIG FAT MESS and I am angry. Iam considering cutting the yarn and being done with it and moving on to another project.

6:49 pm - Thanksgiving...
|
...is my favourite holiday of the year. It is one of the few where you are not expected to get gifts, or do anything really. There are no pre-concieved notions of what its supposed to be. Its just about having a good meal, with any family you chose, and having a good sleep afterwards. Plus the hubby has monday off...woot!
However...this year I have to spend it with the inlaws...and I dont even get a dinner. We have to go to a stupid restaurant (ABC restaurant), and I get to listen to my SIL tell everyone that she is pregnant (got preggers 6months after her son was born, stopped nursing her son...1 reason was so she could get preggers..and many other things that frustrate me..) and then I am going to get all the looks about why Im not pregnant, and how if I stopped nursing...and all that fun stuff. And NO MEAL! I love my mashed taters, and carrots, and corn, and stuffing, and pistaschio salad...*sigh* now I have to wait until next year.

10:15 pm - OUCH
|
I got a wisdom tooth pulled today. When i got two pulled while pregnant with Kahlan it didnt hurt this much. He had to cut it into several pieces, drill and cut some jaw bone, b/c it was wedged in there - and yank and pull...and now that the freezing has worn off I hurt - and I am SOO SOO hungry and thirsty. I can't even lie down with Kahlan because lying down hurts and makes my mouth throb. It won't stop bleeding, and I am out of gauze - I cut a cloth into eighths. I just want to sleep - but I know Kahlan will get up and then Ill have to sleep in her room - so I wont sleep..and I have Evan tomorrow...I just wish I could tell craig to stay home from work, and tell Tracy that i cant watch Evan, and lie in bed and sleep and then eat...or a combination of the two...and stop hurting...and maybe swallow...*sigh*
*note- there is no mood button for in pain*

12:43 pm - Things are on the way...
|
So I have purchased...lol...on its way to me are...
1)6 skeins of yarn from threeirishgirls (to be fair two of those skeins are for a friend whom I making longies and a hat for) 2) a pretty wahm wet bag 3) a blueberry diaper cover, bamboo shorties, luxe shorties, wahmies pail liner 4)12 diapers with liners and some different sized covers (gift from a mom in my mom's group)
and in my posession I have
1)diaper soap 2) 2 bamboozles, a berry plush cover with two minkee inserts, plain white cover, 10 plain cotton inserts
what I'm still looking for
1) ER or EJ 4.6 old style girasol 2) some fuzzibunz mediums 3)some sort of mama necklace.
On a completely unrelated note: I'm having a sad day. Thought I might be preggers no such luck...There are people who are pregnant who do not make me upset at all - because I know they *deserve* (isnt the right word but I dont know what is) their kids, and I know they will be good mom's. But then there are people who tell me they are pregnant who just shouldnt be...why just have kids for the sake of having kids, to show them off - not for the joy of being a mom, and the priviledge of raising them - its those people who make me angry, and jealous. and sad....but yay for fluffies!
